a glimpse of the red quilt

I started this post this morning-and it’s nearly 8.00p.m. now. So where has that day gone? It’s been a glorious spring day-a bit cool still but fewer showers. I got soaked yesterday planting potatoes, but finished that job this morning in sunshine. I kept seeing things that needed doing-weeding, sowing, raking- and eventually spent about 5 hours gardening, so I guess that’s what took up most of my time.

But enough gardening, I intended to write a textile themed post today.

A couple of people asked if I would post some pictures of the red quilt-so above is a little peek at the quilt top, with a 4 inch appliquéd square sitting across the junction of 4 other, larger squares. There’s a lot of thread clipping to do still, but all the squares are appliquéd on now, and the side triangles. I just need to put the corner triangles on. I really like the dragon fabric.

I have also been playing with little pieces and have made my very first ATC. I used it to practise some machine embroidery on a piece of silk and finished it off with cotton Perle thread. I’m working on another postcard too, using some Kaffe Fassett fabrics-I hope to do some more of that this evening.

Thanks for the glimpse of the red quilt – I love the dragon fabric too, and the cherry fabric….. The ATC you finished with perle thread -is that around the edge (my computer is mucking about and wont finish enlarging your photos for a stickbeak)? I was reading in Quilting Arts about this – is it the same technique, or just a fluke that i’ve read about similar techniques in two days?

It’s gorgeous – amazing how the different materials in the raw come together to make a even better whole!

You need to come over to my place to collect an award on Friday. Hopefully Google will behave itself and my post dated for then will pop up and all will be revealed!

Paula-the technique in Quilting Arts was whee I started with the binding. But I have added and extra round of Perle cotton, this time using a fabric glue-to cover up the edges more.
Michelle- thanks for the lovely comment. I’m so excited about Friday too-I shall wear my gold lame ball gown and diamante wellingtons to come over to your place.

I’ve been considering making a red quilt for our bedroom. Glenn loves red and it would fit well with the decor. Oh, dear… another project! ;0)

    Your ATC is adorable!
