a departure
2008 April 29
A few threads to sew in, a little slip stitching, a label, and then The Red Quilt is finished. Before it is given as a birthday present I will photograph it on a bed and after the giving, I will show the finished piece in its entirety. But for now, the Red Quilt will quietly leave the stage and I will miss it.
I have loved making this piece. It has taught me much-about quilting, about the nature of giving and about the love involved in the act of creating. It gave me the chance to think about my beautiful daughter, and about how much I love her. This is for her.

The quilt has absorbed all that love too, and is storing it like a battery. When Laura is wrapped up safe and warm…or dreaming beneath it…your love will be transmitted to her…
At least, that is my own personal theory of textile metaphysics! I am so glad you had such a wonderful experience….
you did this quilt remarkably quickly – my quilts tend to be long drawn out affairs. Its looking great – Laura will be thrilled (and if perchance she isnt Im sure the postage to Brisbane wouldnt be too much…….)
Wow – it’s even better than the last time I saw it and you’ve finished it well ahead of schedule. Well done!
It is so lovely, even if I can only see a small corner. I love red and black together, one of my favorite color (or colour) combinations. Laura is a lucky gal… in both the quilt and the Mum!
(((((Mum)))))
That’s a hug ^_^
Your quilt is beautiful. I like the underside as well as the top. The love and caring that you put into the quilt is evident and I am certain that your daughter will cherish it always.
It is amazing to see how far advanced spring is there … the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures are something. Suddenly the trees are in leaf.
Having been lucky enough to see this in real life in progress I’m sure your daughter loved it
I’m looking forward to seeing the picture you took of it laid out on the bed
