what if this is crazy
2008 August 29
I’m still deeply involved with sheer fabrics-thinking about them, working with ideas, liking the “windows on other worlds” ideas I’m playing with on Fenland.
So I thought, what if I use chiffon for a crazy block-as the top layer, but make the foundation from painted, embroidered silk. I think it might be crazy and not work at all. So far it looks like this.
I drew the block on the painted silk base with a pencil-it measures 4 x 4 inches. I’m using the sew and flip method that Allie taught me last year, doing a little embroidery on each section instead of along the seams before layering the chiffon on. It’s quite girlie!

This looks fun. I can’t tell from the photo – is the stitching on the background or the chiffon?
ahh – another take on it – i like this – its combining the new ‘what if’ with the whats iffing you were doing of your own. If you keep going Im going to have to go out and start buying lots of sheer fabrics you know!
This is a wonderful idea! I love that your trying it out!
Gallimaufry -the stitching is on the background with the chiffon laid over it.
Paula- I am terrified that having started working with them, I’ll be doing the burning and tearing things soon as well. I’m fighting that just for a while.
Karen-thank you for that. I’m not sure that the way I am doing this is going to be successful or not, but I’ll learn something from it. Even if it’s only to avoid doing it again!
