Thank you
We had summer yesterday-hot and sunny-the first day like it for such a long time. Spent it in the garden, cutting the beech hedges that surround our house, tidying up the resulting debris and then beginning the tidy up for the autumn. Tomorrow will be September and the season will have rolled on in the blinking of an eye..
This morning, in the rain, again, we picked 6 pounds of blackberries. It was companionable work, with my other half and the peaceful sounds of bird song . I made jam this afternoon. Well, half made it. The fruit pulp is dripping through muslin as I write and tomorrow I will jammify it. If you want the recipe-with illustrations-I wrote about bramble jam making last year in two posts, here and here. I can vouch for its loveliness. I do a lot of cooking now I have stopped working as a teacher. Nothing very fancy, but cooking none the less. With plenty of fresh home grown vegetables.
Following some very helpful advice from Gallimaufry and Allie, I have made and stitched a label on the Birch quilt, attached the paper labels for the show, found a pillowcase to put it in-(the show committee’s suggestion) and packed it with tissue, in a plastic bag , in a box. And tomorrow it’s off on its travels. Thank you ladies for your advice and encouragement.
Paula asked me for a picture of the finished item. Taken in the sun yesterday evening, outside in the garden. I’m standing behind it. Hello! (DH took the picture) Click to enlarge, as usual.
and a detail or two…

what a stunning quilt. Will you visit the quilt show where it’s going? It would be good to see pics of it in ’situ’.
I agree with Karen – stunning. Thanks for the photos. Im sure it will get lots of praise (and blue ribbons and cash prizes??) at the show.
I love the way it turned out. I hope the judges love it, too. =)
This is so fabulous… the detail really makes it but the colors! Oh, I love the colors in this quilt! Crossing fingers and toes that it gets the recognition and awards it deserves.
why WOODn’t the judges love it? it’s gorgeous. you know i have a thing about leaves and nekked trees. . . i really do. keep us posted.
Absolutely gorgeous: it’s definitely a winner as far as I’m concerned. Good luck!
Love it mum – especially the Guinness logo
Took me AGES to get the Guinness logo thing, Laura! I had to Google it before the penny dropped. Doh. I’ll have you know young lady it is a Finnish kantele, as featured in the Kalevala. Ooooh. I love all those vowels, as you know.
Thank you all so much for your generous comments-
Karen, I am going to see it in the show. It’s in Weston Super Quilts in Weston super Mare weekend after next.
Paula-not holding out for either blue ribbons or cash! Just hope some people enjoy looking at it, before it comes back home to Wiltshire.
I’ve loved following the contruction of this quilt. Through it I started following your blog and found a friend as well. I’m sure much admiration will be shown this beautiful piece at the show. Good luck
