what if there were silken pleats
2008 September 4
My feelings about the last crazy patch were that whilst it was an interesting experiment, I feel that particular footpath led off into the deep woods and I may wander there again in sunnier weather. Today there is cloud and a lowering light and I wondered, what if there were pleats? I’ve added a couple of pleated and tucked elements to Fenland and like them. So this is a pleated, brooding, autumnal gale and tumbling leaf sort of an experiment.
These too may be pathways that lead into a wood and stop, or the many ways of a maze. But there may be a way through the woods.
Pleated silk and cotton patches, turned fabric strips attached with running stitch. In progress.

A walk through the granite hills, me thinks. Me likey!
clever – i like the way the pleats give texture without frilliness
I see the paths, I feel the woods, I hear the swish of the skirt.. the pleats do add the extra without going over the top… great colors too.
love your delicate colour and pattern sense and the pushing of boundaries you are so actively exploring!
I love this addition of texture and curves!
your colors alone are great, but the texture sends it over the moon!
love your thoughts in this post as much as the block you have created. Haven’t read that poem in ever so long – it has provided a lovely interlude of imagery, thank you!
Hi! thanks for the words of wisdom. I think it’s probably early days, hence the panic, the huge change in lifestyle. I shall try and remain calm, deep breaths, counting to ten…..we shall see where I am in a few weeks. I have half left the housework, delegated the rest, I’m learning!
beautiful weaving of words and stitch. i like the origami feel the pleating gives. what if the whole block was folded instead of seamed?
