scaffolding and new eyes
I’m conscious that I am working on my C & G course in monochrome at the moment. All day I have been immersed in lines-in acrylics, in ink, in pencil, in felt pen, Indian ink, black paper and white. I’m so close to it I need to look at something else this evening, so I will spare you black & white pics of the day’s activities and share something else.
The little piece above is another piece in the What If there was pleated silk experiment-thought you might like to see it under construction. It is built up in a broken-glass-jig-saw type pattern. The pins are a sort of scaffolding, supporting the piece, structuring the story, gradually replaced as I tack the seam covering strips down-but allowing for changes of mind and adjustment throughout the process. 8 pieces of a nine patch are almost completed-the 8 that will surround a central square.
On another thought-a book I ordered arrived today-Jan Messent’s World of Embroidery. I think it was Arlee who recommended it. I knew I was going to love it from the first sentence on the first page:-
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Marcel Proust.
How true.

The recommendation was from Acey-with big thanks to her (and to Paula for reminding me.) She has a superb post at the link.
