stitchery
I have worked up a little stitch sample based on the collage I made for my course, posted here. This piece just uses couching threads and fabric strips. I tried to pick up the colours as close as possible to the original piece. It looks better enlarged, but I really need to re-photograph it when a) I have pressed it and b) the light is better.
I finished this on Saturday and have spent today engaged in research about darning and pattern darning. Tomorrow I will post some pictures of the sampler I made and the research in my book. And hopefully some links you may find interesting.
There is an enormous amount to do for the C & G Course. It is all very interesting but I am glad I only work 2 days each week. or there is no way I would be able to fit it in. I think I have forgotten how to study-everything takes ages. Either that or time has shrunk over the years. And I am beginning to feel rebellious and wanting to do something completely different! It was ever thus.

i was going to say it looks like one of those dry stone walls in a paddock (a field – I couldnt think what you called them for a minute
)but went back and had a look – the stone steps – which is close. well done – it conveys that sense of stoniness with grass at the base. very evocative.
yes, i love the couching all smashed together like that…and i love the format of this blog.
I feel like I’m having a peep over someone’s garden wall – just like Sally and I did in Lacock over the summer. You must be glad to have some of your many pieces finished even if you want to rebel and play elsewhere!
Paula-I’m glad I made you think of stonework-I must have something right. The stone hereabouts is a lovely honey gold colour-very nice to emulate.
Jude-thnaks for the comment about the blog format. I do love the way couching creates texture-the stone and the mortar all in layers like a cake.
VP-I am glad some pieces are done but the counted thread work is pretty time consuming. I must get some larger holed canvas, this 32 count stuff is for the birds!
This is fabulous…represents the collage really well. I am enjoying following you as you progress through the course.
Thank you Jill and thank you for visiting and leaving me a comment.
