darning

Well, I have re-photographed the couched, textured piece I posted yesterday as, hooray-the sun came out here and lifted my spirits quite considerably. It’s only small-about 3 by 4 inches  and too me longer than I expected. It has been pressed and framed with drawn threads, so looks a little more presentable.

The next samples are some exercises in darning-they too being very small. I did enjoy making the little multicoloured, woven piece, bottom right.  There is some lovely work like this by Hilary Hollingwoth, with a how to guide, on the Embroiderer’s Guild magazine website here. This is an inspiring site and the projects are providin me with acres of inspiration. The work of Jane Beaney and Jean Littlejohn, two of my embroidery heroines is here too.

This morning I worked some more on my research into darning and pattern darning. The picture is a spread about darning, and this afternoon I am going to curl up on the sofa in the sunshine and work some pattern darning.

Hi Karen-as I don’t have any real people to bounce ideas off because I am studying remotely, I would welcome any feedback about whether this looks about right or not detailed enough. I will be forwarding some things to to my tutor soon and will get an idea then, but I just can’t tell what to aim for yet.
