January birches Cherhill

birches white twigs

No snow in England but freezing fog, leading to the depositing of rime frost on the trees. They look so beautiful, as if someone had dusted the branches and twigs with icing sugar. As is traditional, we went for a New Year’s Day walk, despite the freezing temperatures  and were rewarded with these beautiful trees on the Downs west of our house.

” You naked trees, whose shady leaves are lost,
Wherein the birds were wont to build their bower,
And now are clothed with moss and hoary frost,
Instead of blossoms, wherewith your buds did flower ;

Edmund Spenser

Well,  here we are in January and I trust everyone is well and feasted and ready for a new year. I have not made any resolutions or plans yet, apart from continuing with my C & G course. There are new books and materials to play with, new journals with crisp white pages, but no momentum yet.

I  gave Laura her cushions for Christmas-she likes them and I enjoyed making them and since then I have made a little bird-I will post about him next time. But as for other thoughts- the brain still seems to be in snooze mode at the moment. Must still be hibernating time. Here’s raising a glass to you all and a bright new year.

Hi!! I hope you are well and you know what I wish for you! Thanks for the lovely comment. We actually had a little snow on New years Eve and as it was so cold it froze immediately so we also have these beautiful trees.

Those photos are gorgeous Judith. We’ve had lots of snow but none of your lovely frost.
Lucky Laura to be gifted with your creation.

All the creative best in 2009. Looking forward to hearing more about your C&G courses.

What hauntingly beautiful photographs! Your cushions are lovely – I am often drawn to similar color palette — right now I’m knitting a little hat with bits of orange and green wool! Perhaps the white, lavender, browns and grays of winter make me long for the greens and oranges of summer!

    Happy New Year Judith!

Brrrr, it was chilly yesterday wasn’t it? We took our walk at Midford and had to bowl along pretty sharpish to keep warm.

The cushions look lovely. See you soon :)

Hi Louise! I haven’t spoken with you for a while and just popped in to see how you are. Your work is divine! Some day when I don’t have to work outside home so much I’ll get back to my creative side!

I’ve had a week and a half off from work for the holiday and it hardly seems like it! I’ve really enjoyed my time at home and with family though. I’ve got the 09 garden seeds ordered and will have some seeds started indoors by the end of January.

I hope you’ve had a nice holiday ~ sounds like you’re enjoying the winter wonderland. It is beautiful. Your pictures are lovely as usual!

I’ve gotten myself an all wheel drive car so I don’t mind so much being out in the messy roads. Needless to say I’m enjoying the season much more!

Well, I hope you have a blessed New Year!

What gorgeous photos of the frost – we were driving through the Cheshire/Staffs countryside and exclaiming continually about its beauty. What a brilliant start to the new year.
