now that April’s here

Now that April's here

Oh, to be in England
Now that April’s there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England–now!!

Robert Browning, “Home thoughts from abroad”

One of the most searched for posts on this, my textile blog , is the one for last April featuring Browning’s poem, written when he was in Italy and homesick.

This is one of the most beautiful times of the year here and my garden is blooming with all of the above plants, all growing within 10 yards of my back door, all photographed yesterday. I wish you could  be here to see them. The next best thing I can do is to share them with you this way.  Have a joyous day.

I sigh loudly in your general direction….we are still loaded with snow in Calgary, and all that peeks from under is brown……….

What a stunning April mosaic Judith. I learnt that Browning poem at school – it brought back pleasant memories of English lessons. I think it would be hard to choose between April in Italy and England personally.

I have always wanted to go to England and do nothing but tour famous and not-so-famous gardens. The photos entice my dream again. What a treat to see.

I know I am biased, but April (and May ) in England just has to be the time to see this country. June is pretty good to. I hope one day you realise your dream. I have a hankering to see the Fall colours in New England…
